Hello
I have 15 domestic geese. They are pets and I love them but I cannot have any more. Today I have a goose nesting and I am thinking of addling the eggs using corn oil. Has anyone else done this or have any advice?
Thanks

Hi Gooseynik, and welcome to the forum.
Well, you could try that, or else pierce the eggs which would mean they failed to hatch - Or of course you could just remove them as they are laid. She wouldn't begin to sit in earnest until her clutch was complete, so you could take and use them fresh, as one would with hens.
Has she finished laying her clutch and started to sit? And you don't mention that you have a gander - of course there would be no point anyway in letting her sit unless the eggs could be fertile.
With 15 geese it sounds as if they'll all be laying and wanting to sit soon, so maybe you have a policy decision to make here. I've never kept geese, I hope someone else will reply who has, but with chickens it's not a good idea to let them sit if there's no realistic hope or need for them to hatch young. All that sitting results in loss of weight and condition, to no good purpose for the bird.

Hiya :)
I too have 16 geese and have the same issue.
I row out to the island every few days and collect the eggs just leaving the newest one so they never have one more than 2 days old. However one slipped through the net last year and we ended up with a gosling, so this year I am going to replace a full nest with hard boiled eggs and see how that goes! They always manage to sneak a fertile one in though!
