getting some ex-batts!

i only use cupirnol its pretty cheap and comes in all colours they also do one called ducksback which has added wax in it also this is animal freindly does a great job of turning white chickens green    if at the time they ever got stolen i would of known if they were mine .some people do use cresote but that can be very hard to get hold of now but its meant to help against red mite i havent tried it so would not know if it really works as i have read so many different things about it .

It's not so bad Fuzzyfelt123 and Icemaiden.

The ex-batt ladies are wonderful, curious little creatures who will honestly enrich your lives.

Yes, it's a learning curve but there is much help on here from long time chicken keepers. They will gladly give of their time to help you.

I wish you both well with this and please keep everyone up to date with your progress.

Personally, I will bore the bits off everyone here with updates on my ex-batt 'flock'! I think they're already prepared for this. :D

Awww thanks for the replies; i am starting on the coop at the weekend (after i've got over my night shift!) and will try the cuprinol. I have ordered 2 big bags of smallrangers ex-bats crumb at Countrywide, just need to source some bedding, and feeding equipment to be ready for re-homing day :D !

you should be able to get everything you need from countrywide , go for shavings or aubriose :) then thats one department were you cant go wrong :-)17

and without being funny try and make your own feeders its fun trying to work out what they cant and can tip over :-)05 although the waste of food is a worry . i use old dog bowls and even large sweet plastics boxes for water containers { cant remeber the name of the ones in the red box  } .

Celebrations :)

By the time I've got my run built, Celebrations will definitely be in order, & I'll be a Hero
At the rate I'm going, the Roses might be out too... :D

Do I really have to bury the wire mesh 18" in the ground if I'm putting 45cm square paving slabs around the outside of the run, or can I lay a foot or so of the mesh on the ground on the outside of the run & put the slabs on top of it? The thought of digging two 7 metre & two 4 metre trenches, 1 1/2 - 2' deep is quite daunting (for someone who put her back out just planting a few raspberry bushes earlier this year), so I keep putting it off!

i havet buried any of my wire at all , all i done was make it an L shape thread it along the top line onto main fencing then place slabs , railway sleepers , membrane and woodbark on top and so far no probs but not to say that will work for everyone when it comes to building runs everyone works different just do what you feel is best .
i wanted to re do the run that i built last week thats now roofed and join it to the main run as i didnt really think about that when i done it but it will have to hold for now as my dad passed away this morning so things aint good at present but i am sure the faverolles can bare with me for now .

So very sorry to hear that news Karminski. :(

No don't bother burying it Icemaiden. The objective is to stop the fox digging under the wire and the slabs will do that. Next problem is forcing the bottom up and we use a steel wire placed at ground level strung tight. So if you put 6 inches under the slabs and use a tight wire you have the job done.

What Chris suggests is fine.

Also sorry to hear your news karminski.
