Funny egg and discharge

This morning when I went to give the girls their breakfast there was a funny looking egg in the coop nexto one of the perches. It didn't have a proper shell but a sort of jelly like membrane around it,. They never lay in the coop, always in the nesting boxes.

Does any one know what this is and what I should do about it?

On another issue, I bought some new girls a month ago and when they came to me they had mycoplasma. I treated them (and my existing flock who were separate) with tylan and they seemed to be better. So I put them all together. This weekend I noticed that one of my existing girls has got a clear discharge coming from her nose and it sounds as though she is congested - it is not rattling but more like she has got a cold. A couple of the new girls are also making funny clucking noises, like a mix between a cough and a sneeze. None of them have that sweet odour they get with mycoplasma, so I am wondering what this is. This weekend they have also been walking around with their beaks open, a bit like they were panting (it has been absolutely boiling here - perhaps that explains the beak behaviour?). I had thought perhaps the cold/snuffly sounds were due to the change in weather, but since the funny egg this morning I am worreid that it is something more serious...

All advice very gratefully received!

Hello gretl, the egg is nothing to worry about- sometimes they pass soft shelled eggs- if they are free range and/or have access to grit then don't worry about that- it is normal :) The panting is also normal in very hot weather- birds cant sweat so they pant to lose heat- give them some shade and plenty of cold water.
as for the discharge/cold- i would keep an eye on it - they may need more tylan/antibiotics- you just need to see if it gets any worse. Hope i have put your mind at rest about some of the issues? :D
regards, David

Thanks David, very helpful as always! I shall keep an eye on the sniffles and see what happens.
