French Blue Maran

Chuck, mine isn't a blue hybrid, she's supposed to be a pure bred French Blue Maran. The colour of egg in that photo is exactly the colour she lays. Is there a difference between a Blue Maran and a French Blue Maran?

My understanding is that the French Marans has feathered legs whilst the English are clean legged, DBE would be better to advise as although I have had a couple of French Marans (copper black) I don't really know that much about them.

There's lot of stuff on The Marans Club website which also links through to the Marans Club of France. I keep the English Cuckoo which are the clean leg type.

Castle Farm - lovely hens, but aren't they Copper Blue Marans? Mine is the same except she doesn't have the copper in her neck feathers, they are just black and she has feathered feet. Also she is darker than the photos of yours. Any ideas?

Is she a blue jersey giant? I don't know. She's no bigger than a Sussex. Do jersey giants have feathers feet?

yes they do, she is right colouring and size. and picture looks much like one

I have just sent an email to the breeder to ask them to confirm what she is as I thought I was buying a French Blue Maran!!!!

I have received a reply from the breeder and he assures me she is not a Jersey Giant as he only breeds black Jersey Giants. He hasn't actually said the words 'she is definitely a French Blue Maran' though!! Yet, anyway.

sometimes it is possible for black jersey giats to produce a blue strain

From the photo she does not look anywhere near big enough to be even part bred JG. Strange the seller cannot give out and out confirmation that she is Marans !
