Thank you David, it was quite a learning experience. Just one more question - the fench copper maran born yesterday seems to have a 'curly foot' where the 3 toes all curve round into the centre. Will that sort itself out by itself or is he/she going to have problems? He seems to be able to walk ok, although still doing a lot of sitting.

Hello, curled toes are normally a humidity problem - if you dont want to show then it will be ok- they will not straighten themselves- some people cut a flat "foot shape"out of soft card and micro pore it to the foot to straighten them out-tape each toe separately and flat to the card-leave it on for a few days and they should straighten-you need to do this now if you are going to do it- as soon after hatching has the best results- otherwise if it's not too bad and can walk ok then, as a pet it will be ok.
regards, David :)

Splinted the little chick this morning, and he/she seems quite happy. Thanks for the advice!

It has been a fantastic experience as well as nerve wracking! I have learned a lot as we have gone on. They are doing well - 3 have got this thing called 'pasting up' so I'm having to clean their bottoms all the time! No different to real babies!! :)
