Fireworks

As it is getting to that time of year again and I always have to be careful to keep my dogs in when there is likely to be any fireworks nearby and have the radio on quite loud. My question is what do I do about the hens? Sometimes they have fireworks in the gardens either side of mine and this is very close to the hens. What does everyone else do?

nothing, there are never any near me.
You could bring them in the house(haha!! :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: ) if youve only got a few :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:
Or you could close them in to their coop and hope they are okay

its usually cold so we get them into their coops and shut the air vents. Its a noise and flashing light problem so if you can't shut the vents they need to be covered over. Obviously open them all when displays have finished -they are usually early for the kids anyway. If the fireworks are really close and you only have a few hens bring them in and put them in a cage in a dark room. If you've got too many to move you may have premature soft eggs on the floor in the morning -they need to be removed before the hens start moving about.

What's annoying about firework displays is they are no longer just on bonfire night but all through a week either side. So you may have to do this several times.

Mine have always come indoors, but thats just me.
Mine went into the downstairs loo for the night as I felt that they were pretty stressed out.

Don't have to think about that this year as my birdies are all gone.... starting to miss the noise and their antics, watch this space I may just have to get a few to bring my garden back to life..........

this is the time of year i start to really hate , fireworks have already been let of around my area and its only begining of september . the first 2 years of keeping chocks had me really worried but my girls took to the noise etc fine considering they were ex batts and we have 1 neighbour who lets of the BIGGGGGGGGGG bangers personally i am more stressed for my dogs then the girls but ehtier way why cant it be just the one night only and not the whole month before and after bonfire night .

Once they've gone to roost and are asleep they probably won't even notice the fireworks.

It sounds as though it's probably we who is going to be more worried about the fireworks worrying my girls, than they will be!!!! What's new - no one warned me that keeping hens was going to give me more to worry about!!!!!!
