When my cockerel has successfully mated with a hen how many of her eggs will be fertilised?

They will be fertile whilst he is still with her and up to a fortnight if he's removed.

This time of year the cockerel may well not be as fertile as spring / summer time. The cold weather effects "the little fellas"

Thanks for that both of you. Will the day afters eggs be fertilised or does it take two or three days? I'm guessing that because the next days egg is already partially formed it may not be fertilised any ideas?

I would have thought the egg laid after "mating" would be fertile if the cockerel is doing the job correctly. I laugh at my young silkies who haven't a clue yet, one youngster grabs the ladies by the head and then wiggles his bottom on the floor facing her!!! Bless he will soon get it right (men are so slow at these things!).

Not all eggs will be fertile especially this time of year
