Hi, I have two sussex one boy one girl together free ranging and the roo crows far too much. Every two minutes my OH is threatening to do him in if it's not sorted :-( my other cockeral does it a few times throughout the day but not as constantly as my Sussex. Any ideas why he's doing it so much?? Would extra girls help cure the problem?? Many thanks

Oh, its really annoying when they cant :-)04 .
My wyandotte was like that, but he was not lucky. He ended up on a plate.
Cockerels crow to attract hens, and to announce to other cockerels that they are there, own the place and have hens. The problem is usually worse when there are several cockerels because they compete and compare, and him having more hens would mean more hens for the cockerel to see to, but also more property to announce and show-off (through crowing!).
So, In short, What i have just said is what i know, but i still dont know what you should do!!!!
sorry

I can only suggest you take away any triggers you can...... :-)19 ... The other Cock for a start. They bounce off each other and the domminant one will crow most. I find my Buff Orp does it when I leave the coop also.. As if to say "Right he's gone now.... Whos' the Daddy now huh ?! I'm the Daddyyy doodle dooo !"

We had the same problem with 2 bantys, non stop all day !!! we had to get rid in the end. good luck..

Hey, thanks for the replies, I will try to put some more ladies with him to see if that helps. Funny because when I first got him he was so quiet and a bit of a whimp now he struts around like he owns the place!! Saw him mating for the first time too so have some of her eggs under a broody can't wait to see if they hatch!!
