We have been keeping chickens for a year on the south coast of Portugal with reasonable success but have today lost our first one. She seemed fine first thing but went very quickly. As we do not know what caused it and the other 20 seem fine, is there cause for concern? If we do not know the cause of death, is she safe to eat?! Thanks.

Hello Saly0204,

Welcome to the forum.

Yes, I agree with David, you would be unwise to eat her if she died because of illness.

Keep an eye open and if any others look sick, isolate them from the flock immediately to prevent the spread of disease but lets hope it's an isolated incident.

Tim
