Well it has been 1 week and 2 days since I got my 4 Ex-batts and everything is going well (so far!).
For any of you thinking of getting any, they really are fabulous little things. Very rewarding as they will do something new every day. Every minute that goes by you can see them getting healthier and happier.
Yesterday was the first night they slept with my existing girls and all seems well. Integration into my existing flock (of 4 girls and 2 ducks) went fantastically well and I am now getting around 7 eggs per day!
I gave them all a cuddle last night and when I looked, there were tiny new feathers appearing on their bald bits! Give them a few more weeks and they will look like my other girls!!! :D

Hi Amy
Well done they feather up quickly, my 23 ex batts have been with me for 5 weeks now and they look completely different. They have such BIG personalities :D

Crikey 23!!! Thats amazing! Im so glad yours are doing well also! They are such funny little things and your right about their personalities!!!
Mine has dust baths for the first time yesterday...I was cooing with pride! My husband thought I had lost the plot!!!! :D

Hello Amy

I must just share my first time experience of keeping ex-batts (well first time for chooks generally)! Like you I loved them from the offset. I got my girls at the end of May and they very quickly became very tame - one especially and its not always cupboard love either!! My husband wasnt too sure about having chickens initally but is totally hooked now. :) I'm just so glad to have them and it is a real reward in itself to see them slowly becoming stronger and doing what chickens should do. My worst oven ready girl will take a while to regrow feathers especially as the 3 little quills on her bare back have now disappeared! I'm guessing either she or another girl has pulled them out which is shame! Its nice to know that I'm not the only person completely smitten with my ex-batts :D

Well done Amy, I know just how rewarding they can be and you are correct, the entertainment factor plays a big part.
Have just taken delivery of out 3rd batch, we now have 146 and are slowly heading towards our first 1000 (hopefully before the winter sets in). Assuming my pockets remain deep enough and the weather allows me to continue building sheds for them.

What a fantastic waste of time they are!

Good luck

Oh Im so glad everyone is loving their ex-bats!!! Mine are all still doing really well! One of my balder ones, Ruby, spent ages running round today with a large strawberry hanging out her beak! Very amusing!
I would so love to have hundreds like you guys but unfortunately a) my husband would divorce me b) I cant build sheds and c) I think I would become a chicken hermit!
But serioulsy, good luck to everyone out there who has ex-bats, a real worthy cause if ever their was one!
xx
