Today I found an egg that had been broken and eaten, I know this can be a serious problem, unfortunately I am not sure how the egg broke, it had been moved outside by the time I found it. I have four hens, I know which hen laid it, but do not know who the culprit might be. It could just be an unfortunate accident, but if not what should I do? :?

Hello, it may have just been broken- all hens will eat eggs if they are smashed/broken- it is, as you say, probably an accident- you just need to keep an eye on the situation- if it continues then try to make the nest boxes as dark as possible.
regards, David :)

One of my young cockerels started pecking holes in eggs. Some French mustard inside a damaged one caused a great amount of frenzied screaming as he tore out of the nest box--- hes not done it again-yet! Ros
