Hi,
Am needing help. I have 3 chickens which have started eating eggs. Am unsure as to whom is doing the eating and am loathed to dispatch them all!!! :-)07 Any advice anyone?

---Try filling a couple of eggs with HOT mustard and leaving in the nest box!!!--it seems to work. Ros

It's one of the most difficult problems to stop once it's started.

Try Ros's suggestion. Also darken the nest box and try some dummy eggs which can confuse them . It's hard to tell which one is the breaker, as after it's broken, they will all eat them.

If you've got the space, you could try taking them out one at a time for a couple of days to see if you can identify the culprit.

Hi,

My chickens have also started eating the eggs-am going to try the mustard filled eggs. Dont want to seem stupid for asking but do you add the mustard to water or put it into the egg undiluted?

Thanks.

Hi Folks
There are roll away nest boxes to purchase on the web.I wolud sugest maybe to look at theese. They work like when hen laid an egg, eggs rolls away under to separete compartment when she cant get hold of that anymore. Is this make sense for you? But this will work only if they laid in the box, maybe this option is better than cull the hens.Good luck and let us know how you progresing:) :-)17english is not my first language so forgive for any misspellings :-)01

Mix the mustard neat with vinegar,my hens love mustard............
Roll away nest boxes are brilliant.A far better idea.

We've got one eating eggs I think, but since I caught and killed a huge rat it has stopped, so perhaps that was the culprit? Put a white pot egg in (same colour as their eggs) and it was heavily pecked at, then egg eating stopped but restarted. A friend had the same problem and tried mustard but they loved it. He then tried a pot egg and it stopped. Rats can't get into his run or coop so that wasn't the problem. We had one that laid a large brown egg and immediately turned round in the nest box and ate it and she went!
