Hi all,
Hope someone has a clue as to what is going on with my little Rusty. She is a young backyard hen, only just started laying. Part Cream Legbar, Part Amberlink and Part Welsummer ( Dad WelsummerX Amberlink) and Mum is Cream Legbar)
A cuople of weeks ago when letting them out to freerange she fell over while running, tried to right herself with her wing but head and neck were "snaking" all over the place. Almost like when we get a REALLY dizzy spell and the world is moving too fast (if you understand what I am trying to describe) The other girls were ready to bully her so I picked her up and the neck and head started moving less frantically.
She couldn't eat as she could not focus on the food or keep her head still enough. I put her on Epsom salts ( in case of Botulism) Aspirin in case of Mareks and kept her warm and away from the flock. After a couple of days I noticed a bubbly eye and sneezes so straight on to the Tylan. It seemed to work, but really slow, ususall it works so quickly. Kept her on Antibiotics for a week and she seemed well enough to re join the flock. She has been laying pefect little eggs but the day she got ill again we got a soft shell egg. After 2 days the "snaking " neck and craning head returned and she cant focus on her food, she keeps missing what she is aiming at. She can see but I am not sure if the dizzines is affecting her aim.
Sorry to be so longwinded but I am so worried about her, she is the dearest little hen you could imagine, comes running to her name, loves cuddles and is just such a pleasure. I would be devastated if I can't help her. ( vets are so expensive at the moment and I am on such a tight budget. I do hope someone can set my mind at ease)
Many thanks
Nikki
