Hi is there anyone that can give me some advise,i have a 15 wk old pekin bantam she has lost a lot of weight and very weak.I took her to the vet's who gave her an antibiotic injection but didn't know what was wrong with her.I am worming her as i thought it might be worms, but since i have started she has shot downhill.Tonight she is breathing very heavy but sometimes she will take a few pieces of sweetcorn,i have been syringing some chick crumb down her,but she srtuggles.I really want to know if i am doing more harm than good or should i be giving her more food down her i can only get a small syringe's worth make 2 before she is either falling asleep she has slept all day as well.or does'nt want to take any more water has to be done by syringe too. Also giving her some drops to give her a boost. She has also started to make a little tapping noise while she breathes but not all the time.Would really appreciate some advice i'm a newbie and worried sick.

Sounds initially like a respiratory infection Willow. She is a little early to need worming and in my experience the first dose noticeably does the job, the next 6 days just seem to make sure no worms at all survive to become resistant to the wormer. So at this point I would stop the wormer.

I would have expected the vet to give a follow-on antibiotic like Baytril, to be given orally every day. But it may be a genetic problem causing some organ underdevelopment. Think water is very important and our vet gave a packet of electrolytes to mix with it. We mix the crumb/ feed with water and roll it into tiny soft balls so it can be swallowed easily. Still a two person job to feed it.

Wish you the best of luck with her Willow. Sorry, I haven't been very helpful really. Sometimes they just recover without any singular reason and I think TLC is the best of any treatments.
