Hi all,

just need advice please.....we are at day 28 today with our sitting Aylesbury......just wondered if the timeline is definate, doesnt look like there is anything happening at all. We have tried the candling approach and to be fair there are only 1 or 2 that are a solid mass by definition of the light though some others do look like they may still be forming. How long do we wait after today to see if anything happens and what do we do if it doesnt...dispose of the eggs?

Like I say its day 28 today and she really only nips off for a very very short while occassionaly to feed or quickly dip in the water, mostly she just sits looking sorry for herself, we will feel awful for her if she doesnt get a duckling out of it!!!!

Also.....we are not sure if the shell has changed colour on one of the eggs, gone darker, that may be imagination but it certainly seems to be a different colour....hope thats not a bad sign.

heres hoping.....

Neil.

Hi, the one that seems to have gone a different colour, smell it, it could just be an off egg.

At this stage you would expect to be able to see the ducklings have pipped the air sac at least whlst candling.

I personally would give it 3 days yet before considering taking the eggs away.

When candling you should be able to see 'flickers' of movment should the little quacklings be alive. It really is a waiting game! Good luck, let us know how it goes, If i have an unsuccesful hatch i tend to break open an egg or two out of the batch to see why they didnt hatch.

thanks for the advice......i will let you know how it goes.
the one that has changed colour doesnt smell at all......very strange

I'm not talking ducks here - but a chick should hatch on day 21 - I've just had one hatch on day 26 - in an incy - and a good healthy cochin at that - don't give up straight away - but any that are clear - get rid off now - if they break the gas given off could kill any viable ducklings - good luck - everything crossed for you :D

Duck eggs can take upto 31 days, try putting the eggs in a bowl of warm water, you should be able to see the egg bobbing around. (try whistling to the egg it makes them bob even faster!) If the egg sinks to the bottom then the egg has gone off.

Thank you, the ones i suspected as being bad were.....still.....she has several more to keep working on.

Thanks for all the help
