I was away one night this week and OH couldn't find Ginny (one of our muscovies) anywhere! He was in a panic, thinking the worst and having to tell me. As he walked back to our back patio he heard a squeak...looked everywhere and couldn't find the source...opened the back door and there it was again, this time Ginnys head popped out from the Chiminea!
I had been wondering how she seem to materialise from nowhere lately... the chiminea is right by our backdoor! :D :D

Anyone got any other stange nest stories???? :D

Her nest... :D :Dginny1.jpg

iv found eggs in the water but luckly no water and in the compost bin but mostly in the old rabbit hutch
but im sure the bantams are laying and cant find the eggs so searching for them.

I can see why she found it an attractive place, though if she only knew......................
No exciting stories to tell though they do sometimes drop them on the lawn for us to find. :)

Caught in the act..had to turf her off, I have a feeling though that they are all laying in there.. .

AHHHHHHHH___ she had better watch out for the summer evenings ! Ros :-)08

You have a great marketing opportunity to exploit here...... "Garden Chicken Rustic Nest Igloo" - in natural attractive terracotta. Enhance your outdoor living space, dual purpose, decorative, practical- warm and cosy, impervious to the elements and red mite..... Oh I can just see the DIY stores stocking them.....Beats those trendy garish OMLET colours.

I may joke, but I came up with an idea for chicken toys and was laughed at, and now Pets at Home have a toy range for chickens!!!!!

I think she is a very clever and sensible girl.

:D :D :D Not a bad idea at all! :D Haven't seen the chicken toys at Pets at Home!

Think of all the electricity bills you will save if you hatch them in that! Ros

I shall check my chimenea as soon as I get home this evening, mine have lovely red faces again but no sign of an egg and I've searched everywhere I could think of - but didn't think of that

That is so cute- Makes a fab little nest- what a sensible girl!

Another one tried to make a nest in a pile of straw in the garage...squeaked at me when I walked in and I nearly had a heart attack!  :o

With the first chickens we had, we couldn't work out what had happened to the Welsummer's eggs. We looked everywhere without success. That is until we came to work on the polytunnel - bad weather had ripped it open, when the weather was good enough to replace it, we got in to weed it out and found a nest of 30 eggs in the potato bed!

One of our other chooks took to hiding in the nook behind the compost bin and an old pallet, another started laying them in the old shed in with all the junk.

Our geese have currently taken to laying in the small reed bed of the pond.... at least that one makes sense!

I found an egg ON my trampoline today.............. what a place to lay an egg!
I had been worried about her lack of egg laying since having her impacted crop thingi however......
On having a nosey about after finding the first rogue egg I have since found 3 under the trampoline and one INSIDE my shed on a little bunde of loose straw that has obviously fallen from the bale.........
Weirdo chicken!

Hi Elmwood, I too make toys for my girls . I made one out of old cotton reels and string and tied an old Ariel excel gel cap at the bottom to put small portions of corn in. They stand there pecking at it for ages!

guess what I found in our chimnea yesterday?1

... not a hen but a cat! Alfie decided it was a nice cool place to curl up & kip - and made me wait for my bbq tea!
