Cyst or Abscess on Ankle?

Hello,

I was working on a farm yesterday where there was a hen which had what appeared to be a cyst or abscess on her ankle. It was quite large approaching the size of a golf ball and she had a bad limp, but looked well otherwise and appeared to be feeding well.
I would love to be able to pass on some advice to the owners if anyone knows what this may be?
