Advice please.

All but (possibly) 4 eggs of the 15 eggs that are set in my Suro20 have hatched and continue as we speak. (First out was at 13.25 yesterday)

The older chicks are quite liveley and occationaly charge around stomping one and all. I have the brooder ready for when the last egg has hatched and chick dried. I wonder at how 20 eggs would ever hatch and fit all those chicks in with the shells :-)11 It's amazing to watch (But you know that ;) )

Thing is one of the chicks seems to have a red lump on the side of it's neck and occationaly bleads a few spots. I'm worried for it and the others if it dies in there.... It seems OK atm, and I'm watching closely any advice ? I'm assuming I have a few more hours before I can open the incubator to help/inspect the little fella... I'm not sure all the remaining eggs have pipped.... It's bedlam in there ... start counting one end and you have to start again :-)19

Thanks in advance

Oh dear...  I would hook the little rascals out specially if they are playing footie in there! If they are fluffed up and strong pop them in the brooder. I usually empty once and take out the shells anyway. The little one with a spot on its head I would leave in a little longer..maybe a small blob of savlon/vaseline to stop bleeding later if still a problem.

Congratulations though sounds like a very successful hatch! :-)17 :-)08

Hey Foxy. Thanks for the reply.

I have either 2 or 3 eggs from 15 that haven't hatched yet. The others are now fluffies.... btw.. the Favs have the most obvious and adorable beards allready !lol.

Tell me... Can I do a clear out tonight and get the fluffies under the lamp and leave the others to hatch in a clearer bator ? ? Assuming they do. Or wait until 13.25 tommorow ? (48 hrs from first hatch)

Bugger it... I'll do a clear out of shells and get some room in there as long as all are fluffy. Them little bighters are using the remaining eggs for Rugger.... Footy is too nice a word for it :o

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh....................bet they are really sweet. Congratulations, you have your hands full now. :D

Yes, remove them to the brooder when they're dry and very active. Leave any wet or late hatched with the eggs for another few hours.

12 happy little chirpers in the brooder and one (of 3 remaining) pipping slowly in the bator this morn. I can't find anything wrong with any necks today either... not yet anyway.
I've noticed the Favs have fluffy feet also ! What little darlins ;) lol.

I'm not sure I'm able to do the piccies in the format the admins like. Even fotobucket seems not to transfer the size change for me when I ask.... I'm doing something wrong and I don't know what... I'm working on it. :-)02

However... here's a big piccie for now... (Admins please feel free to play with it)

Err ... I'll do a seperate post ... don't want to loose my inane chatter too :-)09

The last (14th) was a Fav that I had to cull this morn. It had a serious issue with it's leg and was panting in pain for 24 hrs before I made the hard choice... :|

So now I have a wonderfull bundle of fluff totaling a "Bakers dozen" (j/k) 4 days and wing feathers allready ?! Them little chirpers grow REAL fast.... can't help but note.

Got them booked in with the Beaver scouts on Monday and the Nursery school on wednesday. :ugeek:

Kids need the education facilitated ... mark my words guys... Do your bit ;)

:-)07 ... shopping's arrived and needs putting away... gtg... pics later

I am trying so hard to hatch some Fav chicks, but their eggs never hatch! I think Abe, my Fav rooster, is infertile...so frustrating! :(

I think I've managed it ?!
Now then.... how do I add more, I wonder....

Lovely chicks! well done! One thing to watch out for is favvy babies grow like weeds... :D :D

That little brooder is sitting in an area aprox 1.4 M X 2.2 M that has a barrier up around it to 0.7 M. Just waiting for them to outgrow the warmer and cozier small vertion I'm Using just for now. I'm trying to gauge when I can let them into the larger area safely. It will make it so's I only need to clear maybe once a day, where I clean them 4 times a day atm... I've allready raised the water higher due to the little sods churning shavings into it.

There's no draughts to speak of in the "Newbuild" I have the brooder/s in .... do you recon I can let them into the bigger brooder ? They allready love to run and jump at eachother, madly trying to fly or do some kind of Kamakazi attack on a sybling for fun :-)09 They're as bad as my kids ever were :-)11 :-)01

Yes, I reckon a few days and you can let them into the bigger area. The only thing I would check is for is drafts and the type of flooring- will they be in a box or on bare flooring? Wood is fine, concrete is too cold for them imo, unless it has a layer of insulation.

The black ones are "Black rocks" off my Buff Orp Cockeral. The dark brown and some of the yellows are "Ex-Bat"off my Buff Orp Cockeral. Four chuby cheaked cherubs are Favs from Foxys. I found all the other eggs to be infertile other than that one poor runt I had to cull.

The enclosure has no breezes at all unless I open a door or window. It is a newbuild for a Commercial kitchen I hope one day to open...(Waiting until I'm rich enough :-)12 getting old while I do) The floor is concrete but a tarp or underlay with shavings on was the plan. (The tarp coz it makes cleaning easy also) Next time they'll be out in the Garage/workshop or under a broody ... different then.

Ahha !! :-)11 So THAT is why they run madly around trying to fly and what the white powder in the litter is ! :-)11 .... And I only put Gin in the drinkers at bed time :-)02

I've got pics of the little beauties but have only managed to post them in Allotement Growers UK forum Gallery ... It's a matter of size and stuff.... I'm not too bright with these things.... :-)06

I want to try sorting it out so's Foxy can see the Favs also.... But days later and I'm still daunted by it all ... There's 13 of them after all ... that's a lot of resizing and stuff :-)07 :o
