Coronation SX ??

I have 5 Coronation L/F cooking at the moment , 1st one is hatched , its getting late and I just think it might be an only child. :( I know that crossing Coronation and Light can give a % of Coronation colouring even if they are not true/pure bred. Which way round does this work? ie boy/girl of which crossed with which etc. Even though its only hours old this chick looks very boyish to me already! --Guess its one for Davidd , Sue and anyone else who knows! Thanks , its future may depend on your reply!! :lol: Ros

Hi Ros, firstly Coronation sussex, like all blue birds do not breed true- breeding any blue birds will give the following results-

Light sussex are a by- product of Coronation breeding- all the birds are pure and it doesn't matter which colour is a hen or cock. You will need to wait until it gets its wing and neck feathers to see if it's light or coronation. Do you know if the eggs are blue to blue or blue to black (light)?
Did you get the eggs from Ebay? as they are very rare in large fowl. please feel free to ask any more questions.

Hi David-----yes Flea bay eggs -------I was never going to buy any more in BUT----!!!They are just as likely to be Warrens or something! I will await neck feathering etc with interest .I am afraid chicken genetics continues to mystify me! I will have a look at the link. Foxy--its only been hatched a few hours not enough of it to take a pack of Paxo yet! Ros. +' David----I ve read that now , I had no idea the markings were genetically blue , I suppose then the 'splash' rules can apply to the markings???? Does this just show as a poor /irregular blue patterning of markings? ---------Maybe a trip to ,orfolk for growers would be easier!!!!!!!Ros
 
Blimey, I'm going to have to rename the forum to Coronation ^forum .com or something.

I hadn't come across Coronation Sussex - if I was lucky, I saw 1 solitary bird at a show and now, every tenth post I seem to view on the forum talks about them :-)08

They were rare... but with this interest, they will be off the rare breeds list in no time :D

Hey Podstable, hope you have had more hatch/ I love these, look forward to a chick pic.

Which are easier to get hold of, LF or bantam? Ive been interested in these for a long time but had only seen pics of yours David (apart from feathersite & aussie pics) never seen one at a show. I know VP has bantams now, but havent been able to find any here & really would like birds rather than eggs.

Have a LS x Red one hatched 5 days ago.

Hello, both bantam and large fowl are not common- but there are more bantams around- haven't seen many l/f for years and years but there are a few more around now.

Is confoosed :-)07 doesn't take much :oops: I thought coronation sussex did breed true, because they are lavender (self blue) not blue (andalusian)
 
There were a few large fowl coronation sussex at a local auction the other week. I only keep the bantam coronation, I have 1 pen coronation to coronation and 1 pen coronation to light. With breeding coronation to light sussex you tend to get about 50% of each. It also stops in breeding down the generations, plus a bonus they make really good broodies!!
 
Atten. Davidd------- my chick is getting a little wing tip feather colouring. At first I thought this was black BUT , with the help of glasses and natural light today they look a def. blue! I will keep you informed! Ros :D
