Cod liver oil - with food or water?

I was just wondering how people give their chickens cod liver oil? I have just started trying it and have been mixing into the layers mash I make with poultry spice but they seem to have gone off the mash. I assume this is because of the oil as I have always put poultry spice into the mash. Is it possible to add it to the drinking water instead or will it just separate out?

Thanks, Nicola

As oil & water don't mix I think it would just seperate. I'm not sure how it should be given though, I thought they were supposed to like it!!!

Mix it in the food as you normally do, maybe you need to use a bit less codliver oil? :-)17

Hi
I add the cod liver oil into the warm wet layers meal. Although at the moment the girls are spending more time standing in it than eating it!

I only give cod liver oil occasionally, depending on the birds condition. I never give more than twice a week and then probably around a dessert spoon into half a bucket of feed.
Useful for ducks in winter mixed into wheat rations to keep feathers in good condition.
