chickens an mice

would chickens eat a mouse that was already dead i know they will catch them if they can an eat them alive but this morning i found a poor dead mouse { sorry love mice :lol: } in thier water bowl thats within the run and the girls must of been drinking from it as this was a few hours after i let them out that i found it ,i cant beleive my girls never took it out the water an ate it but as soon as i took it out they were all round me as if to say ohhhhhhhh whats that :lol: then they almsot got out the run after me .

i think this is the first mouse i have seen in there for at least a year although hundreds probably run amok in there wach night .

i have seen mine kill a mouse but they didnt eat it.

Hi, they will normally just swallow them whole- they love them and will catch any they can and eat them i am afraid

Did you see that programme on the TV a few months ago (can't remember what it was called now- secret life of a chicken or something???) They showed a chook eating a mouse!!

On another note, an old chicken keeper warned me about mice & chooks, he told me to be careful about leaving the chooks water out at night if there were mice, because the mice drink the water & have a tendancy to pee in it . This is v.bad for the chooks & spreads germs/disease make them poorly.

my water is changed daily and as soon as i found it i gave them fresh water i can understand that but dont forget chickens also seem to prefer muddy puddles to drink from as well thats probably worse 06
