Hi All!
I have spent this morning browsing through peoples questions on this fantastic forum (instead of tidying up, doing the ironing etc!!!!!) and have noticed a few people have written about taking chickens for walks! Nothing would make my little girl happier than showing off her chooks and we have lots of lovely grass that is very close so I know the chickens would be in bliss if we could do this. Can anyone advise? Where do you buy leads? It sounds such fun wandering up the lane at chicken speed, stopping for every worm and blade of grass....

Also can I just say a huge thank you to everyone who has helped me so far with all my chicken questions. It is a very friendly forum and I love being part of it.

iv never seen a lead on a chicken but i know they do parrot harneses.
when i was nursing molly id take her for a walk in the pet buggy which sh loved and even more loved the attention she got from passers by..
chickens wil peck ay any thing so best not were dogs go

Bottom gets carried in a basket (heavy though). He wasn't very impressed with Tenby town centre but liked the beaches because he could get out and walk around. His feet are very soft so wouldn't let him walk on hard surfaces. He's useless with a bucket and spade and hates beach balls. Provided there are no distractions he won't stray out of eye sight and if we duck out of sight he panics! He would hate a lead but would follow a grape or piece of Yorkshire pudding anywhere. He is now nearly 4 and we've had him as a pet from two weeks.

molly will do any thing for slice of bread chickens can be so funny
there a rooster on face book that rings a bell for corn

Rooster Bottom pecks us on the leg if he wants to be picked up for a cuddle. If you ignore the first light pecks he pecks harder and more often. He then gets picked up and buries his head under our arm and goes to sleep -and snores sometimes! If you pick up a hen he gets jealous and pecks our legs to put the hen down and pick him up. If you ignore him he has a tantrum, starts muttering and walks off stamping his feet. He watches nature programmes but falls asleep during University Challenge.

Brilliant! He sounds like a real character¬ :D

I have seen on you tube people having chickens on the lead and dragging them around-not impresed at all loked like did not like it at all

I agree with Trygresek -a lead is horrible and completely unnecessary as a pet chicken will follow you. Either this is because you are the flock leader or because you may have treats or because they hate being alone and need company I'm not sure -perhaps all of them. Minnie the Gold Laced Wyandotte has been moved across the Orchard. She wants to be with the Orpingtons as most do, because they are so placid, but they don't like her. So we've put her in a bigger coop with Legbars and the ex- bully RIR Dandilion . She dislikes being there, but hates being in a coop and run on her own, so has accepted it without fuss. So perhaps the reason a pet chicken will follow you is primarily loneliness.

Yep! You are right. I have abandoned the idea as the chicken on the you tube video doesn't look at all pleased about it's situation. My daughter will have to throw grapes, bread and raisins in the garden and watch the girls chase the treats instead!
Thanks for all your help with this one!
