hehehehe sorry about the headline but its the best thing to put , does anyone else here suffer from what i call chicken jams when the girls are going to bed one always blocks the entrance to the house and wont let anyone esle in unless i finger poke her backside to move her out the way and then the girls all line up behind one an other tryign to get in sometimes its quite funny to watch but other times its very very annoying especailly when its pouring with rain and your standing there waiting to lock them up .

Just leave them to it, they'll sort themsleves out. Maybe go out five minutes later to lock up, or take a brolly out and just enjoy their antics! :)

Ours used to do it, but ruffling their bottom feathers gets them out of the way and when they saw me coming after a few times of that they moved without prompting.

glad my girls aint the only ones who do it  theres been times i wish i could of got it on camera and i am so sure they take it in turns as well as its not the same girl all the time .

Mine did this when I first had them. I assumed it was part of settling the pecking order. They don't do it anymore.

mine do it all the time and have never learnt any manners they are still doing it after over a year of being together. Fortunately I have a covered run so I dont get wet whilst watching the antics. Today for instance Bumble was sat in the entrance and was not moving, I pushed her in and stood back to let the others in meanwhile one of my tiny pekins then stood at the door pecking the others heads as they went in and totally booted out my goldtop when she went in. Eventually pushed her out of the way and then they had to sort out perching order. My smallest pekin and the bossiest wants a perch to herself so she pushes all of them off when the start to perch so all the other eight end up on the other perch. Chickens who would have em :D

i would do that but i hate taking of my boots then putting them back on to go back out there when they are cold damp and yukky and i have frozen feet i prefer to just get everything done thats why i have such good routines but sometimes the girls just backfire those

I was wondering the same Foxy -would never taste as good as strawberry though!

Our hens don't like me picking them up. They will let me and won't struggle but given the chance they will run into the coop to hide. So that's probably why they scarper into the coop when they see me at dusk.

tonight wasnt to bad as all but one had gone to bed and i did leave them an extra 10 mins :D as i needed a coffee to de -stress .

Maggie chook was doing this the other evening. Mu husband was making a brick ledge for the coop to stand in (when it is set) and poor Tilly, FannyAnn and Edna were trying anyway they could to get to the the coop (Herb and the four Black Rocks had gone on in regardless) so OH moved away and waited for them to go in, just as Fan managed it she came shooting back out with a squawk. Anyway this happened twice and by then he'd drunk his mug of tea and needed to get on with the job before it became really dark, so I took a look inside the coop door and there was Maggie sitting on the first perch by the door basically having a peck at Fan's head or the other two's as they dared to come in....Cow-bag. Anyway I found a long handle thing and stuck that inside to move her over and gave her a piece of my mind. Things continued as normal after that.
