chicken feed

hi all. could anyone tell me how long chicks stay on starter chick feed ?? i have six chicks that hatched out under my bantam x on may 20 and they are rather more interested in the layers pellets my hens and ducks are on.is it okay to let them pick at this food.? :? they are quite a handful at the moment and so funny to watch :lol: we spend hours outside since they hatched.

Hello, the layers wont do them any harm but they should go onto growers pellets next ( higher protein)- you can mix some in with the chick crumb and gradually reduce the crumb and increase the growers.

I keep my chicks on crumbs for the first weeks then add growers into the crumbs for 2 weeks then at 8 weeks they are on growers. They go onto layers at 16 weeks of age.
