Hi, just hatch 5 chicks all healthy upon arrival and on the 2nd day one developed a prolaspe. I noticed one had a clump of poo stuck to his vent area and when I cleaned it off there is a little lump protruding from where the vent should be. I don't have any hemeroid, sorry about spelling, cream but I have heard sugar water helps to shrink it. I haven't seperated it from the rest as they are not pecking at it and it's been more than 24 hours since it happened. I read someone had success using sugar water for 6 days or so and the prolapse dried up and dropped off! I don't intend breeding from it, it is really intended for the pot. But obviously would like it to be better. It is eating and drinking and pooping well, he/she seems really happy not in pain or anything. Does any have any advice or successfully got a prolapse to heal? Any advice would be great thanks :-) x

Hi,
Have just treated an adult hen with preparation H bought from a chemist, it did the trick after about a week, this hen had a prolapse for about 3 weeks and I was thinking it may be the end, I had tried honey, sugar but none worked, but with this preparation H the prolapse has stayed in place for 3 days now so fingures crossed
Hope this is of some help

Hey thanks, well I have been away for a few days and come back. When I checked it was still there but only sticks out by a few mm, he seems happy enough and sounds horrible but he/she is destined for the pot so I think I may leave it be especially as it stresses the chick to pick it up and try to soak with sugar water and pushing it back in. I only wanted to make it better as I thought it would cause problems or pain but chick seems absolutely fine so I think it's best to leave it for now. Thanks for the advice, I may get some prep H for the first aid box, probably good to have on hand!
