Cheery Pics

Near neighbour's of ours had the property totally revamped out went the oak flooring, beams downstairs, log burners and it was replaced with white walls, ceilings and a marble flooring including in the utility room. His mother slipped on it and broke her arm, her mother slipped and broke her collarbone, and their daughter rushing to answer the doorbell in socks fell and ended up with concussion, the Dr in A & E told them the floors are accidents waiting to happen.

With the chairs around the wall, and a glass table in the middle of the room, I always feel as though I am waiting to see the dentist. Especially as they have no bookshelves, cabinets or pictures.

“Especially as they have no bookshelves, cabinets or pictures.”
When our girls were little I belonged to a babysitting circle, and when going to a new member’s home for the first time I was always interested to look at the bookshelves, if there were any. Since I would probably teach their kids once they got to the primary school, it was interesting to see if the parents could read and if so, what!

They are a Muslim family, so they have the Koran to read, they are not supposed to read anything else, so the lady of the house told me.

I think the worst bit is the big glass coffee table is about 3ft away from the chairs, so you have the conundrum of do you keep getting up and down to your cup, put it on the floor, or nurse it carefully.

Granny or "mama" as we all call her, has a really lovely cosy house, in the town and it you can really relax, she is a lovely cook as well

If we can't afford our gas bills then we certainly can't afford to have to buy all bottled water for drinking. In parts of the USA fracking has made their mains water completely undrinkable and they have to buy bottled water for both drinking and cooking. I'd rather go cold than lose our safe drinking water from our aquifers...

We have to buy water for drinking here, something we hadn't budgeted for when we bought the place. The water is excellent 10Km North, which is where we lived before, but here it exceeds the pesticides limit, so we won't chance it. Costs about €150 extra a year and every year the levels are higher than the previous. No idea what next year will bring because we haven't had the rainfall to dilute the stuff.

In New Mexico, we had to buy all our water. Drinking water was bought separately, but we had a massive tank up behind the house, and every 3 weeks or so, a tanker would come and fill it with our water supply for laundry, showers, etc.

You don't have enough water in England to frack - it requires millions of gallons, regardless of whether fracking contaminates the groundwater.
