Cheeping chick with bare bottom

I have a 3-4 week old chick that is not happy and clings to its mother, although it it eating well and is active. It is gradually losing the down from its vent area and now has quite a big bare patch. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

Cheeping says unhappy Chickenfan. Sounds like lice or worse still Northern Fowl Mite. Give mum a good check over as that's where they have come from.
