Hi all , does anyone know how i can access poultry keepers site none of my computers will allow me in, it says something about ciphers and ssl's.
Many thanks Alan & Ceann.

Hi Alan, I just clicked on the link at the bottom of the Forum page and it all came up as normal, no problems. Maybe it's a glitch in your browser? Have you tried switching right off and starting up again?

Its strange i have a pentium 4tower with xp pro and a laptop with xp pro neither works, i am using google chrome on both, this is what it says when i try to go onto the website !
poultrykeeper.com uses an unsupported protocol.

Hi Alan, The Secure Socket Layer is used for secure access to Web pages. Chrome may be using it by default. I'm not sure as I don't use Chrome but typically it is on when the addresses use 'https' or there's a little padlock showing. Try Chrome's preferences but be careful as it's important when using online banking etc.

Has anyone else had a problem getting on to the site?
Could people please test the link at the bottom of the page, to help check if it's a website problem, in which case I'll notify Tim, our webmaster.

My phone running Android/Firefox works but the page is secure 'https' which seems unnecessary. Recent update maybe?
Firefox on Linux Mint 17 also working. (Its a really lovely site!)
I don’t think Tim would intend for it to have the same security encryption as a payment page but there may be a reason.
But I also don’t think Microsoft are supporting XP any more either Alan so that’s a bit of a security issue at your end.

mmm thanks all,
i know xp really well and didn't want to change over yet and there's the cost of upgrading operating systems all the time, i go onto websites and buy spare parts for my business which has the https and i have no problem i just read that it maybe something to do with sslv3 and sslv4 ? it does say that poultrykeeper uses an unsupported protocol so don't think its my pc maybe the security level is to high for my version of xp ?

Hi all,

I changed the content management system last year from Joomla to Wordpress and moved to a managed server (WPEngine). As part of this change (to have all of the disruption in one go) I added https at the same time and made the site mobile friendly too. The whole site is https now.

The reason for doing it was because Google is recommending all websites change to https for security and they are slowing turning up the heat by giving a ranking advantage to secure sites. Wikipedia for example has switched to https and I think you'll see more and more going this way.

To be honest, I don't know what the problem is Alan - I have tested the site on Explorer, Safari, Chrome and Firefox as well as on Tablets / phones. There are close to 8000 visitors per day at the moment and from the stats I can see they are spending a while on the site - so I suspect all is well with them.

I'm guessing as Rick says it's because your OS needs an update but they don't update XP anymore.

Sorry to hear you can't see the site though.

Tim

Sigh! First Microsoft, then Apple, now Google going for the market stranglehold!
More power to the Penguin, thats what I say!
There is a 'classic' GUI in Win8 Alan but I know what you mean - I liked XP too. Unfortunatly it will be getting to be a hackers target without the support.

Thanks everyone, i think it is my XP although i have service pack 1,2,and 3 and my version is the pro but all 3 pc's have the same XP Pro so it must be ,ah well looks like it's time to upgrade ,,, thanks everyone.
