Hi
I have just candled after 10 days and i am a bit concerned why the eggs that look fertile are only dark down half of the egg length ways and the other half of the egg is clear. Is this normal or are the embryos stuck to one side of the egg.

Many Thanks

I missed day 7 Turning as i had problems getting home so they were no turned for 32 hours.should i let the incubation period continue as there are movement in some of the eggs that are set.

The embryo develops from the surface of the yolk, which should be in the centre of the egg. It develops slightly to one side but appears as an increasingly darkening mass as the blood vessels develop. At day 10 you should see most of the egg, except the air sac, looking dark.

It may be they are stuck to the side of the egg Rockgoblin? They should be turned back and forth (not rotated in the same direction) by at least 90 degrees at least three times a day. I don't know what happens when an embryo gets stuck to the side of the egg because it has never happened to me-sounds ghastly at hatching though. Have heard of some cheap Chinese auto-turning incubators (two years ago) that only cycled about 30 degrees and whole hatches were lost. Perhaps you can remove the obviously incorrect eggs and continue with the ones that look right? Seems wrong to continue only for the little things to die at the end.
