just noticed one of my light sussex was on the perch but her left foot wasn't wrapped round the wood like her other one, also her 'toes' were a bit crooked too on that feet. I told a shoddy picture (sorry!) for you guys to have a look at, and Ill try and take another tonight when I can get a closer look. I also noticed that one of the hens has been sitting on the floor of the house as opposed to the perch.

let me know what you think!

Here are some more pictures. Though I couldn't get the back of her foot, as she legged it as soon as I got to close.....so that must be a good thing! :D

I noticed the scales near the top of her toes was rough so maybe it might be something different?

thank you in advance!

*UPDATE* just had a look no scabs, though it is slightly more swollen than her other foot and quite warm (well it would be wouldn't it!). Thinking now it maybe a bit of scaly foot instead. *phew*

Also in for a penny in for a pound - I've noticed beak is turning black, both of my light sussex have chipped their beak quite badly (though it doesn't seem to stop them eating lots!). Is there anything I can do to help them?

Hello, legs look like it could be scaly leg- the scales are raised. As for the beak colour- it is normal- on exhibition light sussex it should vary from horn colour to white but black is ok on your bird :) It is quite healthy.
regards, David :)

Hurrah!

I'm relieved about the beak, I thin my Light Sussex is beautiful but I won't be exhibiting her. I've got some scaly foot stuff in so I'll start spraying asap.

Thanks again Davidd - are you sure I can't tempt you to move up north so you can advise me on looking after my small flock all the time! :)

Hi Charlie- well I was born and raised in Northumberland-so go back quite often :)
I will post some pics of my light and Coronation Sussex so you can compare.
Treat her legs weekly for 3 or 4 weeks and don't be surprised if you don't see much difference- it takes up to a year because they only moult out the leg scales annually.
regards, David :)
