Today was our vet's appointment for mrs Clucky,I did ring yeterday, but the poultry vet was out doing farm visits,so made it for today.
Mrs Clucky does have bumblefoot, the vet examined her and said that she is in excellent condition for an 8 year old hen.Was also amazed at her size, said she is the biggest chook she has ever treated,I've got used to her now,but I do remember being shocked when I first saw her
.
The vet also said that usually when she sees chooks for this,it is a lot worse than mrs Clucky's.She has got heat in both of her legs, the vet did find a drainage hole in one of her feet, but,as she is definitely better than she was,she is being treated with antibiotics and anti-inflamatories.Instead of the vet lancing and draining the puss out.
Mrs Clucky is taking both for 10 days, but if I have any worries or problems obviously she will go back. The total bill was £56.49,which is a bit painfull for my purse, but,I am hopefull she will make a full recovery.
The vet did say, that large chooks that are not very active are more prone to bumblefoot, which does describe me and mrs Clucky perfectly.
Mrs clucky went round the vets, being carried by nice poultry vet and met the practise manager, all secretarial and reception staff, and the other vets. She chatted with them, showed them her bad legs, and coo-ed at all the sympathy  .
