Hi, advice needed please.
My big lump of a speckeldy has got a case of bumble foot. One foot is swollen and hot which is what I noticed and the other just has a scab. The vet has given her antibiotics and got the scabs off but nothing came out. She said is was very early so should heal.
She said to bathe the foot in Epsom salts.
So... are all Epsom salts the same - can I get them from the health food shop? and how much should I use in how much water
secondly how do I pursuade Pepsi she wants to wash her feet?!!! :-)10 She is pretty strong when she wants to get away!
Finally the vet didn't say anything about bandaging the feet up but she does free range around the garden so should I bandage them (How??) or just keep her in the run which is a concrete floor with lots of aubiose?
Thanks for any help you can give

Hi Mum of 4, & welcome.
I can't answer most of your questions, but you should be able to buy Epsom Salts from any proper chemists / pharmacist. They should only cost around £1.25 for 200g; that's the price on Boots' website.
Someone else will be along shortly to answer everything else ;-)

What you can do is bathe the area in salty warm water, then if you want to cover the area, apply a little sudacreme then you can cover in some sort of elastoplast or bandage to protect the area

I keep fancy rats and some lines are prone to bumble foot, especially the over weight ones. I always do as you have and give them abs, but never cover or bandage the feet. Whilst the wound is still open I wash with hibiscrub and pat dry. The only other thing I put on is manuka honey massaged well in as it starts to heal. I have had really good results from the regime even with advanced bumble foot from rescue rats.
