Broody already !

Chris with the dog cage you could cut out weldmesh wire to fit on the bottom of the cage and sorted:)Do you undertand what I mean?
 
Yes Tygresek. That's what I was going to use for the coop floor -12mm pitch I think it is. Problem is i think she will try to get through the sides, just as she did with the run.
 
At least she can't run in the cage so less damages.You can put something on the sides too like stuff used in greenhouse to make shade(made from plastic)Last year when I was introducing chiks to older chicks I had build my own cage from leftovers of weldmesh(from a run)which I put over the littleonens during the night so the olders would not attack them in the morning before I had let them out of the cop.During the day they were fine and managed to keep off eachother faces.This yer I'm doing very simular but with difrent approach as ths big hens much bigger than my 9week old chicks.
 
Well the problem has disappeared. She is back to her usual self. just waiting for egg laying to start again. Lets hope its always that easy to break broody TNN's
 
Don't want to swap her for a Silver Laced Wyandotte do you Chris? I wish it was that easy with Potty Dotty!!!!
 
you can sort mine out if you want :lol: :lol: am sure 2 of the others are starting as well they are certainly making the noises

Foxy, a hen called Ena I presume??!!! She was really good when broody with me, but would peck me when she wasnt - she loved OH though ;)
 
looks like all 6 of my bantams are going broody , i went inthis afternoon to collect their eggs and i put 2 on top of thier shelter and 1 rolled of well sooty and socks then spent a good five mins standing face to face arguing over who was going to sit on the egg :lol: :lol: each time sooty rolled it under her socks put her head under her and rolled the egg back so she could sit on it and sooty then done the same to socks it was so funny to watch if only i could of got it on video .
looks like i have a broody house on the way its one of those coops with the run attached but its a small one if my friend can get his son to agree to letting me have it for the £50 hes putting it on ebay for then i am sorted :D :D :D will know tomorrow its actully the guy i got most of my bantams from so i cant see him not letting me have it .
 
Well I'm pleased to say that Sophie has laid here first egg afer her 1 day broody spell. So that's 9 days loss of eggs, which I can certainly live with unless she goes broody every two weeks!
 
You propobly know by now Chris that tnn do not make good broody or mother ,so you should be fine.I had found out that this breed was made utility breed,so motherhood is not an option.Hope you will have some surogate mother for future chicks.They cope very well with heat and crosses with broilers in hot climate tend to produce much faster and healthier eating birds.They do not like cold,maybe this is why you had this fungal infection on him?
 
Hi Tygresek. I've heard exactly the opposite. Breeder told me they run about in the snow without any regard for it whilst all the other breeds are huddled up. They are allso a dual purpose Utility that makes very good broodys so the egg production is only 150 a year, because they spend several months of it broody.

I think the fungal infection of the tongue set in because he was run down. I also think it was an area of earlier damage. He has a scabby area at the back of his comb where it meets his head. I think he got his head with an open beak stuck in chicken wire for quite a period and cut the back of his comb and his tongue struggling to get out. Obviously the previous owner didn't know or didn't tell us.
 
Really?I had read breed description and was like do noot count that they ever go broody.So many conflicting info going around.Crosses on naked neck are so popular in Poland especially with silkies,chave you seen it?
