Breeding suppliments

Hi there,
Has anyone had any experience/ results using Breeding suppliments with their laying hens/ ducks?
Does it really improve hatchability and egg production? I am feeding my layers with laying mash and pellets and it says on the bag that it is a complete food. However I am giving them a suppliment specifically designed for breeding hens/ ducks and I was interested to see if anyone thought that it made a difference or not to their poultry?
 
Hi, you could try breeders pellets/meal - and a little corn- wheat etc- if you put the wheat in their water they love dabbling for it.As for supplements, as long as they have a good diet- pellets/meal/corn and are allowed to free range then they should not be necessary. I have rarely used any supplements and have bred ducks/chickens and geese for many years.

My poultry all free-range during the day and locked up at night, so I guess I won't bother with suppliments. Just one other quick question though - do ducks need shell grit? I give it to my hens, but I never thought about giving it to my ducks. What do you think?
 
Hi David,
I didn't know there were two kinds of grit - I have only heard of shell grit, what's the other sort?
