This evening Linden attacked Aerial. At least I think that was what happened - he was chasing her around with his hackles up and Arial was in a panic trying to get away. Brought her in and she's lost weight by 400g in the last 10 days. Gave her a special supper of pellets, oats and an egg moistened with tea (always goes down) and she seemed to feel stronger as there were no more scuffles. But both her and Mo (the odd one of the CLBs but usually top among them) have been acting odd lately. Keeping out of the way and hanging out together which has seemed unusual.
Areial is well into the henopause now.
Are they being treated as outsiders to Linden's hareem of Lulu, Pom and Bonnie (the Orpington 4 times his size so quite rediculous!)?
 
Sounds feasible, especially with Spring in the air. Mostly my cockerals would ignore hens or pullets that were either too young or too old, but I have also had them pecked (not attacked) as a way of saying 'keep out of my way'.
 
Well, I say 'attacked', and if he was bigger that would be more to write home about. It was enough to put Aerial in a flapping panic anyway.
Poor Aerial, she has never really been in the gang even though she throws her weight around at the food bowl and Mo seems to have a similar personality.
Thanks, I'll put it down to it being springtime and just keep an eye out for them.
