There seems to have been a special offer on mortars this year. I can tell the crew were a bit bothered as they were sort of jumbled up on the perches last time I went to check on them but it has tailed off now.

Good job they weren't here. On Weds we had workmen blasting rocks in order to put new concrete poles in after the old wood ones were destroyed by fire. The site is a scant 1km away, but having led a sheltered life, I have never heard anything like it. The noise, which we had spread over a few hours, made my heart jump!

My OH said in the UK we reacted to the pandemic by buying toilet rolls and tins of tomatoes. In USA they reacted by buying firearms! The number of sales has risen dramatically during the pandemic apparently.

Three things driving gun sales from the interviews I have seen with Americans, articles, chatter on twitter etc. Pandemic, black lives matter and fear of anything from civil disorder to civil war in the wake of the election.
