Hi
I was wondering if anyone could offer any advice. One of my chickens, Blondie, has appeared a little bit off it for a few days. She has been amongst the other 5 chickens I have but has appeared lethargic, sat with her head on her chest and this morning her wings have been drooped and her wattles and comb were looking very grey.
We have picked her up today and noticed that her crop was also ballooned up and very squidgy and foul smelling fluid started to come out of her beak. We've seperated her from the other chickens and after looking through some forums for advice, have put it down to sour crop? We've followed the advice and massaged her crop and a large amount of foul smelling liquid came out and her crop now appears to feel empty and we cant feel any lump in it. Following massaging her crop, I syringed some water into her beak and some natural yougurt, as advised to do when reading about sour crop.
Immediatley after this she did seem to perk up a little but we are a little bit worried. We're keeping an eye on her in isolation but wondering if anyone could give any advice or suggestions? Pretty new to the whole chicken keeping thing as only got the girls in June last year.
Had no problems with them at all up to now and they have been dusted and regulary checked for red mite.
Any advice would be appreciated!

I am so sorry your Blondie is no more. It seems you did all you could for her, relieving her discomfort, giving her fluids, keeping her warm, and feeding a little yogurt.

Personally I would have done exactly the same, and this morning had she survived taken her along to the vets. I am sure someone more experienced will come along before too long, and if nothing else put your mind at rest.

All the best.

Aw I am very sorry to hear your sad news. Chin up keep smiling, you did all you could.
Just enjoy the rest of your lovely ladies!
