The Muirfield Hatchery in Scotland is the only supplier of genuine Black Rock hybrids, and they've recently added a Black List to their website, detailing dealers which are selling pullets allegedly Black Rocks but actually other similar sex-linked crossbreds.
See http://www.theblackrockhatchery.co.uk/
They have spent a lifetime developing this particular breed, and quite rightly feel that others shouldn't sell their similar birds under their registered brand name. So if you know of anyone selling 'Black Rocks' and their name isn't on their website list of suppliers contracted to the Muirfield Hatchery, please get in touch with them.

Hi Marigold, I have a 'blackrock' which is not from the hatchery, I was wondering what other name I can use for it? Is there a common name for this type of hybrid other than blackrock?

Genuine Black Rocks are a cross between specially developed pedigree strains of Rhode Island Red and Plymouth Rock birds. Similar crosses can and do produce good birds of similar appearance, but these should be given one of the alternative names such as Bovans Nera, Black Star etc, or just be sold as Rhode Rock, or Black Rock Type, as Red Rocky suggests. To sell them as Black Rocks when they are not the pure strain is the equivalent of selling ripoff DVDs at a boot sale.

Thanks Marigold, I'll call mine rhode rock from now on! I just checked the breeders webpage I got mine from, and it says Blackrock/Rhoderock. I'm not sure whether this qualifies as a breach of copyright? It's so confusing with different common names being given to many hybrids!
