I have one or two birds not in lay that have not laid all winter. They look well, but just wonder if this is normal? One is a two year old light sussex hybrid that I would have expected to come into lay by now.

The two year old ought to have restarted laying by now, I don't suppose she is fatter than the rest of your flock?.

Thank you Dinosaw. Yes she is quite fat so maybe this is the problem. She looks in great condition.

How well did they lay last year? I had a hybrid who laid OK for her first season and then went through some kind of hormonal change, as I supposed, and never laid again.

How interesting Marigold - but frustrating. The same bird developed odd-coloured eyes last year. I think I'm not quite as keen on hybrids. They do a lot more damage to the garden and seem to wear themselves out laying too many eggs.
