We've got 8 Black Rocks, all have been perfect, about a month ago one of them started to get a bulge under the vent (i've provided pic) but it hasn't seemed to upset her. She has a slight waddle when she walks but she still runs about ok and is eating normal.

Now i don't know if its connected but i found an "egg" in the nest box not long ago and i don't know if she is the one thats laid it (provided pic for that too).

They all seemed ok when i was up there, im going to check again now. Either way, can anyone please tell if it is connected. :(

HI

I don't know much medically and have only had chickens for a little over three years but I have never seen either with any of my hens and due to a very active Mr Fox and initially having them free range has been quite a few and they were until last year all ex battery or free range girls.

I would guess that and you have had a strange egg and that you had a hen that was looking not 100% that the two were linked.

Hopefully the hen is now feeling a lot better now that has gone and she will be OK.

Hopefully someone else on this forum will have some more info for you but I thought I would send you a reply.

Please let me know how you get on.

Could be the 'bad egg' is a lash--- cast out ovary and oviduct?I have no idea why this happens!Any sort of abdominal disease/ problem could possibly cause oedema(fluid swelling) under vent purely as that is where fluid will collect due to gravity.I would imagine some 'gynaecological' problem has caused both the ovary top be passed and the swelling,if shedding the ovary has resolved the problem then hopefully the swelling may resolve.??Ros

Thanks for the replies. I just hope if the two are connected then the swelling will go down soon. I am going to keep an eye on them a bit closer next few days.

Probably a cast out ovary? The kidney shaped bit looks fairly soft, a lash is firm - bit like chiclen kiev
