My little bantumn has started to make noise, it sounds as if she is churping away - as she does - but the noise is continuing to happen when she breathes in and out? almost as if she has a bad cold and can't breath-that sort of noise? difficult to describe a noise. She is fine in herself, chats away, eats and came out for a wander about when I let them out of the electric fence pen this afternoon, ate her corn? gone to bed, but she usually sleeps on the nesting box shelf but tonight she has huddled herself in amongst the big hens? any suggetions please?

Hello, she sounds like she may have a mycropllasma infection- and bubbly eyes? Is she breathing like "Darth Vadar?" If she is, you need to get some antibiotics from the vet.
regards, David :)

Will take her tomorrow evening, our vet will not dispense antibiotics without seeing the hen first? usually causes more stress taking them there but, can't be helped. No bubbly eyes yet, will all my other 8 hens require it as well? Just to say also - I posted a question recently about geese! I believe you kindly replied, well just to say they have now gone back home to my brother - just a little too aggressive for me, 1 started to lay so that made them worse? they flapped their wings and had a great chat amongst themselves when they returned home-obvioulsy happy to be home?

If it is an infection, then keep her away from the other hens, so not to spread the infection. If they all start to get it it's a nightmare(I learnt the hard way!). Hope she's feeling better soon.

The vet will inject the one chicken and maybe give you soluble antibiotics which will treat them all. My vet looked down my chickens throat to see if there was loads of mucus as that is why she is probably making that noise when she breathes.
Good luck with her :)

Been to the vet and she can't find anything wrong with her? Not making the same noise today, eats well, no mucus from nose or in her throat? and today she laid an egg! her first one this year so far - she is rather an old lady now? so vet has given me some Baytrill and will give for 5 days incase, but vet said they do not stock the proper antiboitics needed for the mycropllasma infection anyway, would need to get it in? they are a small animal vet-do not treat livestock? but will get some incase from now on. Thanks for all our help, hopefully little old lady will be ok.

Thats great news. I think Baytril is a good general antibiotic for infection anyway :-)17
