I bring you this useful guide, courtesy of the Daily Mail. Video is embedded in the article.
Family coming tomorrow - too late to rush out and buy a candelabra, damn!

Oh dear, G and T, iPad, trophy spouse!
I guess I’m never going to make it into the upper echelons of Fetlar society.
Still, gruel for supper, clothes from Sports Direct and Pringles with hummus ain’t so bad.

Well I'm not prepared to put out clean napkins for every meal when I have visitors. They get a ring so they know which is theirs. If I had guests for Christmas Dinner I would probably (horror of horrors!) :o use big thick paper napkins.

It's sooooo nice to be "normal" and not have to worry about any of that nonsense. I agree with not bothering with makeup though!!

O M G I am nearly trendy. I have a job, the OH is older than me that counts as best friend, we drink Yorkshire tea and we went up North this year.
Right dramatic life style change in order I refuse to be amongst the "in" crowd.
I did dress up as Captain Hook at work on Friday for our charity day, that should even out the Status Quo

I'd rather people have manners, than aspire to be something they're not.

2 out of the list for me. ? I have a job and my OH is my best friend and 17 years my senior.
Im not a wine drinker. Wouldn't know chardonnay from Champagne. How awfully vulgar of me to admit that ? . Id rather have the Yorkshire tea...and a hob nob ?

I have you beat! My late husband was 30 years my senior! :D Does that make me VERY upper class?! :-)10

I don't drink alcohol at all, but don't drink "ordinary" tea either. Redbush or green tea usually. Not sure where that rates.

I wonder if this article ("I think my husband thinks Santa does it all") may be more relevant to some of us?

Marigold! You/they aren't suggesting that Santa isn't real??!! :o :o :o That somebody else buys/wraps/makes all the gifts?! Noooooo! Say it isn't true!

I love it! In our house, we haven't got a magic basket. OH just leaves his clothes on the bedroom floor, and they somehow reappear a day or two later, nice and clean.
We haven't got a magic iron, though, so clean shirts do pile up until he hasn't got any left and has to iron them himself.

Wow Lady A, you must be VERY posh indeed ?. My OH doesn't drink alcohol either and he only drinks green tea and rebush, too.

Marigold, I stopped enjoying Christmas many years ago, it was only good when my children were very young. Nowadays, for me, it is meaningless. Oh and me will be having 5 days in a log cabin with an outdoor hot tub, looking up at the stars at night. That's my idea of a good time. ?

And you'll both be lovely and clean for the New Year! Hope it's nice and hot!

Or at least not howling gales and torrential rain, which we've been having almost non stop! I guess if the weather is very bad, you can stand inside the cabin and look out at the lovely hot tub, and talk about the stars that are there, somewhere, above the clouds!!

LadyA it doesn't matter about the bad weather when you're in a lovely hot tub, even if it is snowing. It's great. I just hope my chickens will be warm and dry. They are off to the chicken lady in the woods, again. ?? She looked after them well, last time they went.

Ive picked a bad time to take the flat roof off the back of the house. Mind you, it was in an awful state and leaking anyway so not much difference. Just got back from work and the tarp had blown off. Tying it back down with water running off Ugh! Met office says a relatively dry day tomorrow to get on with the job - fingers crossed.
