Sitting in the run this evening I read the side of the bag of Auboise for the first time and it said to moisten it to activate its absorbent properties. Does anyone do this for chicken bedding? Perhaps, when used for horse bedding, it is down on the floor for a much shorter period before mucking out and so doesn't dry again in that time?
I have been experimenting with having a swept floor in the main run and just throwing down a few handful of bedding to aid sweeping wetter and cecal droppings later. Jury is still out - may go back to a permanent covering.

No, I never wet it. Maybe it's because horses just produce massively more wee it needs to be so much more absorbent for them? :)

I didn't suppose moistening it was a chicken thing - just intriguing to see it suggested on the bag. Thank goodness chickens aren't the size of horses or we would have trouble in all sorts of ways and no pan big enough to boil an egg!
