Are you seeking refuge?

Hi LadyA, welcome, so glad you made it across. Most of the 'refugees' have kept the names you're used to, except people who were already registered on here, such as Astrobelle (belleisa), Welsummers ( Margaid) and me, (Fuchsia.) Tilly's Mum has turned into poachedegg.
Looking forward to hearing about your new chickens.

:) :) I will never remember anyone's different user name, I will just pretend you are all strangers. Hello PKF.

Congratulations H-G, as someone who's name has stayed the same I feel sfe to acknowledge you. Double and Huge Congratulations!! A young friend 'came out' on FB the other day, but although my OH saw him up the pub last night he couldn't think of a way to ask if someone had done it as a joke or if it was for real. He thought saying 'Well done you' could be a faux pas if it was a wind up. :-)07

Thank you Tim for your help with us coming over, and I hope the originals don't feel we are taking over. But how about a green background and a poll or two...? :-)11

" And about that duck...... :-)07 "

 Yep, we've made it across

Hope the 'original' PK members don't think they're being invaded - we're very innocent, really! :-)99

Congratulations on the nuptials, btw, glad you're being accepted so well! :-)17 My elderly aunts and uncles still think my gay brother 'has that problem'... My grandmother (their mother!) however thought it perfectly ok! :D

My theory is that it doesn't matter what colour you say the duck is. What matters is that you understood what you were asked to do, proving that you are a person, and not a spam generating computer program.

I'm glad you all can't see me! I'm sitting in my pj's and dressing gown, stuffing myself with a plate full of nachos, by way of "dinner"! The pack said "serves 4" ha! I'm sure it would, if you had lots of other stuff with them! Not when you've been wielding a heavy lawnmower and strimmer all day! :D :D

!!Warning - Nerd alert!! The real purpose of most 'CAPTCHA' programs, especially provided by google, is machine learning. The program wants you, a human, to tell it what the house number etc. is so it can learn to read them itself to aid mapping. I suppose you might fail if you were way off the average response. All those smudged out reg plates and house numbers on streetview - well it would be a shame to waste them wouldn't it!

... what we should do is persuade google to use 'Where is the fox?' images and the we might be able to build that fox zapper robot that Val wanted.

:-)07 :-)07 :D :D :D You couldn't get much further from being a nerd! It was just the way the question was phrased, that the answer needed to be two words, with a space between (or was it a comma?) made me think that it was following those instructions, rather than the colour of the duck that was important. Have to admit, I sat there for a while too thinking "Duck? What duck? There is no duck!" before I realised it was the little runner duck on the logo at the top they meant!

Well if you can't see it you must be a "bot" or whatever it's called.
Fortunately I wasn't asked that when I joined; at the time I didn't know there were such things as Runner Ducks so not sure I'd have recognized it as a duck

I've popped over from ppf, kept my name the same . Bit confusing all these people with various pseudonyms.......how do you remember who you are ?

evening all, just popped in to say hello, can't loose touch with the chickeny folk who don't do FB.

On that note congrats Hen-Gen, I am very pleased for you.

You know, a background change might look nice in here ........ :D :D

Ha! You made it here too! :-)08 :-)08 :-)99

Hello fellow PPF refugees. See that PPF is no more although it was still connected earlier this morning. I wonder who it was who made the last post?

Guess we will now have to get used to grey skies and smaller fonts.

Hello Poultry Keeper forum, :-)99

Thank you being kind enough to take in the sad group of refugees that have shuffled over here recently from PPF. I have kept my forum name the same. It is good to see so many familiar names on here, but I am sure I will get confuzzled by the ones who are different. I hope the regulars don't get too upset about all the new arrivals. .I think the last post on PP might have been Molly as it showed up as there but the forum went before I was able to read it. Just one question..do you use allow the word crappity smack in any posts? :-)04

Eris

Yes, just went on to check and it's gone. :( I registered here first Eris and being a bit naive, used my name although it's never caused a problem. When I joined PP I was a bit more savvy so called myself "Welsummers". Marigold is also easier to spell than Fuschia (see what I mean)!

I posted on it yesterday.

Eris

Hi Eris, lovely to see you here, along with all the others who've made it from PP. I don't think that 'sad group of refugees' is very accurate, actually - people seem to be having a great time, making really helpful posts, and chatting away just like at the 'other place.' The transfusion of new members has actually saved this forum, where numbers were down to the point where closure did seem on the cards. So it's like the typical village shop - use it or lose it, I guess. It's just wonderful to have such an influx of experienced and interesting people on here.
Yes, of course the software is different, but what matters is that it's a place to meet and keep in touch and make some new friends, whether you were a long-time member on here, or a refugee. A forum is what you make it, and this one has always been just as friendly and inclusive as PP. We don't have any automatic editing in the software that stops you posting any particular words, and obviously crappity smack got through, you're OK there, Eris. Registered members have access to the whole forum, there are no restricted sections except one for the moderators, so we don't at present have a Sinbin, but who knows, give it time .... The only real problems would be abusive, racial or prejudiced posts, but so far we haven't had any trouble like that. There is a restriction on new members posting links before having made a minimum of 50 posts, but this is to deter spammers who only register to advertise their own sites, which are often quite dodgy - someone registered only this morning and was straight on to the site advertising his wares - post immediately deleted. If you haven't had the chance to make many posts yet, and want to post a link to support your message, you can always pm me, and if it's obviously genuine of course there will be no problems.

The BIGGEST THANK YOU of all is to Tim Daniels, the Forum Administrator, who has had such a lot of unexpected extra work the past few weeks, registering everybody, as well as keeping the forum running. This forum isn't a spin off from a commercial organisation like Practical Poultry was, and until now, he's actually been paying the hosting fees of around £150 year out of his own pocket, with very little contribution from the minimal advertising, which relies on numbers of clicks to bring in anything at all. (Keep clicking, folks, even though you all know about Vermex!) Tim also works ever so hard to maintain and develop the Poultrykeeper main site (link at the bottom of each page on the Forum) which is an ongoing , interactive encyclopaedia of poultry knowledge on a huge range of topics. Tim has a demanding job which involves lots of travelling away from home, he has a young family, and his own poultry setup to maintain. Also he's a brilliant photographer, and takes many glorious photos of poultry on the show circuit as well.
Enabling a forum to succeed doesn't just happen - and I really hope this one can continue, because its very important to me and to so many other people who have learned a lot, and laughed a lot, on here as well.
So welcome, everyone!

P.S. If you go to your User Control Panel and click on Board Preferences, theres an option to change your Board Style to suit whatever device you're viewing on. It amy be set to Reduced Width but If you choose the Prosilver Special Edition option (whatever that is) it gives you a larger full-screen display.

Yes thanks Tim for all your hard work over last couple of weeks and all the members of the forum for making us newbies welcome, and I will make a point of clicking the Verm X link a lot.
Eris, love that term crappity smack, that should be in the dictionary I feel, glad you made it over to
