Its another question about Pullets & Cockrels. Still can't decide if a couple of mine are male or female, maybe someone can help.

None are crowing (ages 22 & 26 weeks), tail feathers are growing & combs are too, but I've compared them with a picture of another hen I had (she was definately a hen  ) & she had both these.

One of the ones I'm unsure about is very, very bossy & getting a bit aggressive which makes me think he's a he! I know this is a very simple question but I've never had young growers so haven't encountered this before. :?

I have taken a picture but need OH to download

At that age, whatever breed, they should be crowing if they are boys...

Yes, hens do have combs / wattles - the size varies between breeds but it's hard to judge them unless there are cockerels amongst them to compare.

Get a picture uploaded and at that age, we should be able to confirm ;)

Well, mystery over - one is most definately a boy & he proved it this morning with a very loud crow

He's the younger one, 22 weeks, no sound (yet) from the 26 weekers.

We called him Scruffy because at 11 weeks he was just that! Don't know why we even picked him, I think he picked us & ran into the box!! I kept telling 'her' that she mustn't feel self conscious about her appearance because she'll turn into the preverbial swan. Well, she's turned into a cockrel instead :o

Ah Lucylou, will you have to re-home Scruffy(I'd be gutted if it was me and I had to)or are you going to wait and see?

Any ideas anyone if I have 3 boys or 1 boy & 2 can't make up their minds? Hope the photos are good enough for you to get an idea.

Despite looking less like a boy than the others, no comb or tail & the youngest at 22/23 weeks. Decided to tell me he was a boy 3 mornings ago with a wake-up crow  (he was in the wars recently so hasn't got any feathers on his head but they're growing back nicely)

Goldie is the most aggressive chook, very bossy.

Lennie.jpg
Did have beautiful tail feathers until Goldie decided to pull them out! Neither Goldie or Lennie have even squawked both 26/27 weeks.

Hate to say it but they all look like boys to me, their tail feathers are starting to curl over on all the pictures.

Sue

I'm afraid I don't have a clue,just hope they aren't all boys.

Thanks for the reply Sue. I did suspect they were all boys, still 50/50 chance!! Such a shame I can't keep them all.
