Well, we had decided that the spot we wanted the run would be OK (right outside the patio doors from our bedroom so we could keep an eye on them). We had put some more earth on to level it and hubby started concreting the posts in, then it got very windy so had to leave it.

It rained a lot last night and all this morning. When we looked out, the area was just a large lake with about 2" of water. So, plans scuppered and we have to think again.

Just so glad we (well, hubby) had not got too much done.

Beginning to think we are not meant to get any chickens. :-)06

We thought of that Chris, and tried a trench at one side. The problem (we think) is that we bought some land and had a house built. To me it looks like the builders simply dug out the foundations and dumped everything on top of the ground. So there is no topsoil. We had some delivered and they were supposed to level it all off. But now we have put grass seed down, we can see that it most definitely is not level and there is only about 2" of topsoil.

We think there is a better spot over to one side that is a bit higher so hubby is going to try there. Another 'problem' is me - when I have decided on something, I hate to have to change it and I want it as soon as possible - but that is something I will have to get over (moving to a new country and to a rural area was supposed to help us get used to a slower pace of life - so I have to start thinking long term, we have time to sort alternatives out for next year).

Well I think you have the right approach, although perhaps it could be tempered slightly Carolb. Seen plenty of people idle their lives away putting stuff off until 'tomorrow' and never actually doing anything. They spend ages telling you what they are going to do though! Sorry to say this but I think the weather over you is turning yuk tomorrow -a 'soft day' with drizzle. A good day to buy stuff.

Or a good day to come back on line with photographs of the new improved run and a daily progress report of how everything is going?

Hope not Chris, want to get on with it. Have bought everything needed to build the run, just need food, bedding - and most importantly, 3 little Laced Wyandottes.

Will post progress as and when it happens.
