But disappointingly not the largest.

To date our smallest 'wind' egg has been 23 grammes. Recovered today from a run containing 4 large fowl, a Buff Orpington and three Gold Laced Wyandottes, was the smallest by far. It weighed 7 (yes, seven) grammes and measured 30.5mm on the major axis and 14mm on the minor. I cracked it open to make sure it wasn't a wild bird's egg -just white with traces of yolk funnily enough?

I have a photo of it next to a 49 gramme bantam egg, which I will download with some coop photos soon.

And our record has been broken by the Leghorn bantams. They normally lay eggs near the 50 gramme mark but the latest offering was barely visible in the short grass. Unfortunately I broke it, but managed to weigh the mess -4 grammes, say 5 to account for the slight dampness left on my hand.

Chris, are you sure that's an accurate weight? There may have been some left on the grass!! :D
