Hello there,

Please, can anybody help?

We have a problem to 'identify' one of our chicks. I don't really care what breed he/she is as much as I would love to know which gender he/she might be...

Two large hens in the picture are definitely young hens. The one we struggle with is the little yellowish one on the right and should be the same age. His/Her tail is not very prominent but his/her facial features are starting to disappoint me (in case he turns up to be cockerel).

Can somebody please identify him/her for us?

Thanks a lot.

Hi, I think it may be a hen but yes it is difficult to say I have chicks approx 8 weeks and the cockerals have much bigger combs already and have the thin cockeral feathers on their necks. I'm not sure though if different breeds show this all as quickly. Hopefully someone with more experience will be able to help. X

I only guess the yellow one is the same age. It was given to us for free (but without any further info) from the farm where those two young hens come from. Neither of them in the picture lays eggs yet and the girls are still too shy  and so far refusing our cockerel.

The little yellow one doesn't make any noise - it makes the situation even more confusing...
We will keep him/her regardless the gender I am just very curious...

Thanks.

it looks to me like a buff plymouth rock bantam hen. and by the looks of her she should be laying.

Our mini chicken is a girl!!!

A big girl now (despite her size) as she is kind of interested in our mini cockerel - she 'gave him a lift' the other day  . He is some kind of Bantam as well, nice and colourful.

She is called Omelette because of her colour and he is called Nugget.

We will have mini eggs soon!
