Hi,I had two goes at hatching goose eggs last year with out any success.
I intend to have another go shortly.I used a octogon 20 with both water channals filled from the start. The incy was turned automaticly on the cradle.
The second time I used a lincu Avitec a dutch incy, the eggs were set on rollers, again a humidity of 50% and a temp of 37.5c
Most of the eggs were fertile but none went full term.

Hi Graham and a big welcome to Poultrykeeper. I can't help with your question but I'm sure someone else will. Anyway, looking forward to hearing more from you soon.

I hatched some for the first time for many years in my Curfew cabinet incubator which is always run dry. I had the best results I've ever had 18/24 eggs.
As with chicken eggs, I have found that they need less humidity than most instructions say and I only increase the humidity when the eggs chip.

Hi I have 2 African goose eggs and 4 embden x tolouse goose eggs in my Suro king it is fully automatic with turning humidity and temperature control, the temp is 37.2 and the humidity is set at 35 which is quite dry but I had a great hatch rate with this last year (thanks to advice from this forum) with chicken, pheasant and guinea fowl eggs. I had a short power cut this morning so fingers crossed It won't have affected them too much and I will let you know how the hatch goes.
How many days turning and non turning do you use and what humidity and temp for turning and non turning days do you use?

Power cuts don't usually stop them hatching but if it's a long one and the eggs get cold, they tend to hatch a day or more later.

Sent from the power cut zone of England !!!!!!! :-)06

Hi,I had fantastic success this year hatching goose eggs in the incy.I set the temp to 37.5c and kept the humidity up to about 55%.The big thing I done different from last year is I turned the auto turners off on both my incys and turned the eggs by hand.I turned the eggs 3 times a day end over end not sideways and sprayed them with luke warm water until it ran off.I then upped the humidity to 70% for the hatch.Every fertile egg hatched but I had to cull two at the end, which I think was because the humidity dropped to low at the end,the earlier chicks ate the cotton wool wicks on my humidifiers.
What are your thought on turning goose eggs by hand I am convinced this made the difference.

Graham.

One more of the mysteries of incubation ! A method to try again and as long as it keeps working ! Congratulations on the success.

I'd run dry too - so a humidity of 35% to 45% max, then upto 60/70% when the first egg starts to pip, I've done that with ducks too and it works well, I think the humidity settings are too high on most instructions but that's just my opinion!;)
