Hi,
what is the ammount of feed that i should be giving to my chickens that are just starting to lay again after the winter.
They are let out all day and free range in the fields and woodland and they recieve scraps of bread and peelings in the evening.
At present they are on a diet of layers pellets and mixed corn in the evening approx 120g in total !
Is this enough or am I giving them to much?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers in advance

I'm not an expert, but I wouldn't have thought that giving them both bread AND corn was a good idea. If they're free ranging + there's a little of their layers' ration left at the end of the day, that should be fine.

If they are clearing up the pellets and corn and not looking for more, you have it about right. Feeding is not an exact science, especially when the have so much free range.

I just see to it that the feeder never goes empty. They won't eat more than they need, but they do need to be able to find food whenever they need the next small meal. There's no point in rationing them, especially in cold winter weather when there's not much good grass around.
